Some people have been asking how I create the playlists that go along with my weekly Rising Tide posts, so here’s a behind the scenes look.
It does not require much, but there is indeed a method to the madness.
I listen to a lot of music. All day, every day! At work, anytime we are driving somewhere, in the shower, when I’m working around the house or outside…
To start, Spotify curates weekly playlist for me based on the kind of music I listen to and like:
- Discover Weekly comes out on Monday
- Release Radar comes out on Friday
I also like to follow a couple other public playlists that update weekly:
- Alt Nation’s Alt 18
- Gary V’s Monday to Monday
- NPR Music’s New Music Friday
Each Saturday, I post my blog and include the playlist that I’ve made for that week. After the blog goes live, I start a brand new playlist for the coming week.
I listen to each of the above mentioned playlists start to finish, so about half of the music is selected from there. Other songs come from movies or TV shows I’ve watched, or any other music that hits a mood from that week.
Anytime I hear a song that hits me right, I just add it to the week’s playlist. I remove discernment from my selections until I am reviewing the entire playlist as a whole.
At the end of the week, usually Friday night, I’ll listen to the week’s Rising Tide playlist start to finish a few times. Some songs are then removed, as they don’t quite strike the same chord as they did earlier in the week. Songs will be rearranged so it flows better.
I only publish the blog post with the playlist complete when I think I’ve got it just right.
And that’s it!
In addition to the Rising Tide playlists, I also have quite a few others that I am always working on. A few of my favorites include:
I love connecting with people over music. Feel free to check out my Spotify profile. Send me yours too! I’d love to follow you!
