Rising Tide – 2019 Week 11

Welcome back to Rising Tide, the weekly digest of things I’ve been into this past week and consider worth sharing. Enjoy!

1. The world’s most uncomfortable chairs

2. Life and Adventures of Jack Engle by Walt Whitman ★★★★

You don’t have to appreciate classic lit to enjoy this little tale. And the most fascinating part? It was first published anonymously via newspaper in the 1850s before being discovered in 2017. Who knew!?

  • This is the story of how Whitman’s lost novel was recently found by graduate student.
  • This is some further musing on the discovery, along with other a couple other great rabbit holes links.
  • This is the Life and Adventures of Jack Engle available for free online.

My favorite thing about all of this is the confirmation that there are still things in this world to be discovered!

The 1852 announcement of Whitman’s novel in the
Sunday Dispatch, a Manhattan-based newspaper.

3. Why can’t it all be like shower curtains?

4. This Was Cleveland on Twitter.

5. It’s been a Nina Simone week. She’s been on repeat. I’ve been singin’, dancin’, and clappin’!

6. Here’s a playlist of songs I’ve discovered or have been listening to a lot this week:

Well, I think that’s it for this week! Until next time…
