Rising Tide – 2019 Week 12

Welcome back to Rising Tide, the weekly digest of things I’ve been into this past week and consider worth sharing. Enjoy!

1. 12 Ways to Get Smarter is a very interesting article with an even more fascinating infographic! Bookmark it! I guarantee you’ll keep coming back to reference it.

…and now I’m down the Micheal Simmons rabbit hole.

2. Nadia Bolz-Weber on the Rich Roll Podcast is a unique, honest, and yet funny conversation about grace, compassion, and vulnerability.

…and yet another rabbit hole:

3. A couple of books I read this week:

  • Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates ★★★★★
    • Every sentence is quotable, a line of poetry. Race, love, anger, humanity, education, perspective, travel, politics…it’s all in here, packed in tightly yet perfectly. This is one of the best books I’ve read yet this year, by far.
  • A Study in Emerald by Neil Gaiman ★★★★
    • I’ve been on a Neil Gaiman kick lately! He has quite a few little short stories. I’m trying to read them all!
  • Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman ★★★★
    • Still on Gaiman! And the illustration by Skottie Young are way too fun!

4. How to read more

Did you catch the Neil Gaiman quote in there? Coincidence or the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon?

5. Quotes I have been reflecting on this week:

“Live the full life of the mind, exhilarated by new ideas, intoxicated by the romance of the unusual.”

– Ernest Hemingway

“Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can, there will always come a time when you will be grateful you did.”

– Sarah Caldwell (Credit to Ms. Caldwell for the quote and to my Sarah for sharing it.)

6. If you live in or near CLE, Slow Roll announced their schedule for this year! Mark your calendars for Mondays! These are fun, easy, all-are-welcome social rides exploring every corner of the city by bike throughout the season.

7. This week’s playlist is ON POINT! #allthefeels Let me know some of your favorites!

Well, I think that’s it for this week! Until next time…
