Welcome back to Rising Tide, the weekly digest of things I’ve discovered or been into this past week and consider worth sharing. Enjoy!

Turn the Page

1. The Hunting Accident is a graphic novel by David L. Carlson that deserves ★★★★★. It’s a true story with great dialogue and even better illustrations! Definitely a unique, impressive, and fun read!

2. I also read This is Water: Some Thoughts, Delivered on a Significant Occasion, about Living a Compassionate Life by David Foster Wallace. It too gets ★★★★★! Wallace gave a commencement speech to the Kenyon College Class of 2005. You read the speech as the book or this adaptation, or you can also listen to the full speech here.

I am reading as much David Foster Wallace as I can, preparing myself for the ultramarathon (1088 pages) that is Infinite Jest.

3. Here’s a great piece on Why Some People Become Lifelong Readers.

4. Robert Sternberg’s Balance Theory of Wisdom

5. This quote:

The things you think about determine the quality of your mind. Your soul takes on the color of your thoughts.

6. 75 Hard is a challenge I have been considering for some time. Andy Frisella‘s podcast introducing the concept is a good one. I recommend listening while you’re working out at the gym!

7. I’ve been collecting musical covers in a playlist. Share your recommendations!

8. And here is this week’s playlist:

That’s it for this week! Until next time…
