We’re here because we’re here because…

This year, I read 89 books. (As I write this, there are still six hours left in the day, and I am determined to hit 90. I just never count them before they’re finished.)

Of the 89-soon-to-be-90, I have read a lot of 5 star books, so many that a few are tied for second place. Taking my #1 spot is The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Greene.

In the book, John choses a different topic for each chapter and reviews each on a five-star scale. Chapters cover anything from You’ll Never Walk Alone (LFC theme song) to Monopoly, scratch and sniff stickers to velociraptors.

Only after finishing the book and finding the urge to share some of the chapters with others was it that I learned the book is a compilation of podcast episodes from a show by the same name hosted by the author.

The chapter about Auld Lang Syne is about one of the most memorable, and especially appreciated this time of year.

You can also listen to the podcast OR read the full transcript here.

Today, I play and sing this song and raise a glass and toast to the “old time since,” to our world without whys, to being separate yet together in our shared adversity, our shared hope, and our shared humanity, because we’re here because we’re here because we’re here.

I, too, give Auld Lang Syne 5 Stars.

Happy New Year!
